What's New at the Café

Do you know of a site that's about to go down? Does it have information that should be preserved on the web? Let us know, and we'll save what we can!

You can also help us out by keeping your eyes open for any anime-related events or articles. Clubs and convention-goers -- don't forget our events calendar page! If your organisation has something up and coming, let us know!

    We're limping along again...

A new Parent's Guide review has been posted for Gundam Wing. (Thanks, Christa!) We've also updated the news archives as well.

A bit of a disaster here at the Café. Our primary off-line computer has decided to commit seppuku. I've lost all my e-mail, review submissions, and contact lists, as well as the entries for the current (January/February) giveaway contest, and entries for last month's poll. I'll be re-running the Café poll contest as soon as I am able to get things running again. (The actual website stuff is fine, since I have multiple off-line backups of the Café.)

Updated graphics have been added to Rail of the Star and Video Girl Ai.

We have a new review up for Urusei Yatsura Movie 1: Only You.

We also have a new winner for last month's Animé Café draw! Our congratulations go out to Sophia Ng of Campbell, CA!

Just a little note to everyone who has been kind enough to drop us an e-mail or two -- please remember that while we appreciate getting your letters, we would appreciate them even more if we understood what you're trying to say. We're not always up on the latest Valleyspeak or gutter-talk, so whenever possible, please use either regular English or Romanji. (It seems that my kana set is also on the fritz.) Thanks!

While not anime related, it is a newsworthy item -- Charles Schulz, creator of the Peanuts comic strip, ran his last cartoon yesterday. Mr. Schulz has retired due to health reasons.

I'd like to point out how important he has been to millions of children across the world -- his characters have inspired us, and we've all been able to relate to them in some form or another. Mr. Schultz has also been a leader in involvement with the education system. Back in the mid 1970's, our elementary class wrote to Mr. Schultz, and attached our own renderings of Peanuts characters. Not only did the busy cartoonist reply to our letters, he also took the time to draw a picture for all of us in the class. This is a man with a big heart.

    Happy New Year!

You'll forgive me if this update is a day or two late, but hey, it is the top of a new year and century. (And for some, it's also a new millenium -- but I'm not going to get into that arguement!)

Y2K brought one unexpected bug -- it appears that several of our computers have BIOS that can't keep the system clock years straight -- each time you reboot, the system clock would reset itself to the year 2094! While this is OK for most programs, it does make a mess of e-mail message tags, and it also causes our FTP program (WS FTP) to fail. Oh, well!

The poll and November/December contests have closed, and we've started a new January/February draw. We also have a guest editorial by Pete Harcoff of the Anime Critic website. A new review has also been posted for Rail of the Star.

Remember, the Café poll closes on December 31! There are only 29 entries thus far, so your chances of winning are not bad -- compared to the nearly 300 entries that we have for our bi-monthly giveaway!

A few minor updates to report, including a Parent's Guide review of CLAMP School.
