What's New at the Café

Do you know of a site that's about to go down? Does it have information that should be preserved on the web? Let us know, and we'll save what we can!

You can also help us out by keeping your eyes open for any anime-related events or articles. Clubs and convention-goers -- don't forget our events calendar page! If your organisation has something up and coming, let us know!

And it looks like server problems are still dogging us. So, we've set up a (sort of) mirror to the Cafe. This can be found at: http://www.poalo.com/cafe/. Scripts are giving me a bit of a headache to set-up so forms (this includes the contest form) and the search script aren't working yet as I need to configure the paths etc. Please use e-mail or give us a yell in the Cafe Forum. The Forum and the mirror are all independently hosted of one another so even if one goes down, the others should still be live.

As a result, this update is a bit hodge podge again as I struggle to figure out scripting. Definitely up are more Fan Art contest entries. Entries have been processed up to and including Friday of last week. If you sent an entry prior to this time and haven't received a reply and your work hasn't been uploaded, then chances are it wasn't received. Otherwise, I will reiterate one point from the previous update: link entries for the Fan Art contest will not be accepted. Your image file *must* accompany your entry.

Also updated are new releases for both upcoming anime and manga releases. Also, a couple of links have been added and dead links removed.

    More to come shortly...

Looks like the main site's server had some down time yesterday. Hopefully this will be the last of the down time for the next while. Changes this week focussed primarily on the Fan Art contest which got underway last week. All those who sent an entry up to and including early Tuesday evening should have received a response and entry number. If not, please let me know as we had some e-mail difficulties that night. Either everyone received notices or half of you received notices twice and the other half not at all. (If your entry can be seen on the entries pages, your file number is your entry number).

Also up is the second half of the Vampire Miyu Graphic Novel review: Epilogue - The Past Lies Behind a Door. As always our thanks to the folks from Studio IronCat for the review copy!

Apologies! Errors etc., were sidelined from the number of contest entries. With regards to the Fan Art Contest. Please note: your file must accompany your entry. No file, no entry; link submissions will not be accepted.

For those folks who live in Edmonton or who attend Western Canadian anime conventions, Animethon 9 finished up this past weekend. We made an effort to get up there to see how this convention does, and it's made us a touch curious as to how it compares to other conventions. In any case, initial impressions on a number of series as well as a rant can be found on the Cafe Forum ("Anime" and "Conventions" boards). A few photos were taken including cosplayers, the dealer's room and artists' alley. (Please hit your browser's back button to return to this page). All in all a very full, anime filled weekend!

Beyond the busy weekend, we have the following updates as well. A new review is now up for Hikaru no Go ep 3 as well as part one of the graphic novel New Vampire Miyu: The Battle Against the Western Shinma. Special thanks to the folks from Studio Ironcat for the review copy for the graphic novel!

Also up this week are some updates to the releases calendar for both anime and manga, a couple of new trivia questions for Hikaru no Go. A number of gremlins have been reported and we're slowly working through the little bugs (where's Skuld when you need her??)

For those folks into fan art and drawing, the Anime Cafe Summer 2002 Fan Art contest is now underway. The prize, contest details and entries received to date can be seen in the Cafe Contest section.

Lots more error reports, trivia and Parents Guide reviews still to come.

Forms have now been fixed and should be working properly. If you run into any problems with them, please let us know.

Still to come: APGA reviews and trivia and other submissions.

Good news! The search function for the Cafe Encyclopaedia is now back online! The bad news, the move to a Linux server has knocked out our form scripts (yes including the contest entry form). Apparently, our forms and the last update have been down for the past week or so. For now, please use e-mail to send in your contest entries for the July/Aug contest and I hope to get the form scripts back up and running in a few days.

As the forms will be taking my attention for the next while, the Fan Art contest will be slightly delayed in opening. The contest will follow the previous contest with respect to time constraints; specifically it will be open from July 15-Sept 15, and the winner will now be announced on Sept 30.

Cafe bios have been added for: Erin, Kevin Herold, Rosalyn Hunter, Roy Kurano, Roger Powell and Jessica Rauscher to the About the Cafe section. These are the moderators on the Cafe Forum and along with Jay Dee Archer and Jonathan Wu (administrators) have been absolutely indispensible in helping out with the smooth running of the various boards. Thank you guys!

Monthly picks for the month of June how now been updated. It's a first impressions month this time around. Also updated are some anime and manga releases. Lastly, a new review for Hikaru no Go episode 2 has now been posted so take a look!

Next up: form updates, APGA reviews and trivia.
