Seven Lucky Gods

In Japanese folklore, the seven deities of Buddist, Taoist and Shinto origins, who are said to bring happiness, wealth and longevity. The gods are:
- Bishamonten - the protector of people and their treasures, originally from India; often shown wearing armour
- Hoteison - a rotund Zen monk who was believed to have lived in China, shown carrying a bag in own hand and a fan in the other
- Daikokuten - the Indian god of the fields; carries a lucky mallet in on hand, and a bag of treasures in the other
- Fukurokujin - the symbol of wealth, happiness and longevity, origianlly from Chinese Taoism, seen with a long staff or cane
- Ebisu - the guardian of fishing, farming and merchants, carries a fishing rod in his right hand, and a snapper (fish) in the other
- Jurojin the Taosit god of long life; he carries a long staff
- Benzaiten - Indian goddess of music and culture; she carries a biwa or Japanese lute
