Showa
Refers to the period of reign of the late Emperor Hirohito, 1926 to 1989. (Sometimes referred to as the "Enlightened Peace.") Dates during his reign are counted from his date of accession (Add 1925 to the Showa year). 1980 would therefore be Showa 55.
