Now and Then, Here and There

A Parent's Guide to Anime
Rated: M

Recommended for Mature Audiences

Reviewed by Steven Anteau:

This series is 13 episodes long. At the moment it is nearly impossible to find all 13 but it will be released domestically soon.

Shu is an ordinary 13 year old boy until he is sucked into the realm of Heryud. Children are used in the army and forced to kill. Shu does all that he can to stop this along with save a girl named Lala Ru who holds a strange power that everyone wants.

I know it sounds lame, VERY lame but it is NOT! This series is extremely real and brutal and simply amazing. The characters, music, and animation is beyond belief coupled with one of the most original plots ever makes it my favorite anime series of all time. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Parent's Guide Rating:

red (recommended for mature audiences)

Violence - This is a hard subject to judge. There is blood though rarely to a severe degree. The main thing is the brutality exhibited. Children (13 and lower) are visibly seen being shot, punched, kicked, and literally beaten to near death. One character is hung outside a building by his arms, whipped, and than a bird pecks at his raw back! There's one murder scene where you see a gun but visibly and brutally hit a man's head causing an indent every time. Utterly brutal. And I stress, LOT'S of violence towards children and also a pregnant women tries to abort her baby by beating her stomach with a rock.

Sex - Just one attempted rape, one girl talks about being raped numerous times however we later learn she is pregnant.

Language - none to note besides damn and hell

Topics to talk about - Children used in the army and forced to kill mainly but one character is literally insane and raises some questions about what people are really like.
