Macross
(Robotech)

genre: science-fiction / mecha

Macross -- better known as Robotech in North America. For many an otaku, this has been the starting point for their introduction into the vast world of anime. Starting with the original series, the Macross saga spans several series, movies and more recently, OAVs, all centering around man's relationship with their mecha. Argueably the most famous of these are the Valkyrie fighters, advanced combat fighters which can transform into three different modes. The Macross universe features intricate mecha designs and a time line that spans generations.

Parental Guidance Advised - In the Macross Plus series, there are the occassional scenes of violence and indistinct nudity, and a graphic scene of a major character succumbing to the effects of extreme heat in the movie. Some adult subject matter involving a near-rape, but it's presented well and in a responsible manner.

The Macross TV series (a.k.a. Robotech) is much more benign, and could be considered Suitable for Family Viewing.
