A Parent's Guide to Anime

Contributor's Biographies

John M. Brown, P.E.

e-mail: phoenix@phoenixanime.com

John lives in Jacksonville, Florida with his wife, Debbie, and two teenage children, Jennifer and Josh. At work, he is a professional engineer and manages the networks and routers for the local electric utility. At home, he was involved with his kids in such functions as the YMCA Indian Guide and Indian Princess program when they were younger. Now he takes his kids to anime conventions and other such activities.

Anime favorites include Sailor Moon, Oh My Goddess, Urusei Yatsura, Video Girl Ai, Kimagure Orange Road, Ranma and Project A-Ko. Manga favorites include Gunsmith Cats, Ranma, Maison Ikkoku, Oh My Goddess, The Return of Lum and anything by Katsura Masakazu.

The idea for the Parents Guide was first suggested by Bryan Pfaffenberger during a discussion initiated by John on rec.arts.anime in May of 1995 voicing a parent's concern for the appropriate exposure of kids to anime. John, along with a number of other parents, were the very first contributors to this excellent resource.
