Detective Azusa-chan

Café Trivia

Taiho Shichauzo!

(You're Under Arrest!)

question:

In episode 3, Ken buys an o-mamori for Miyuki. What is an o-mamori?

answer:

An o-mamori is a charm purchased at temples throughout Japan (literally means "protection.") There are mamori for good health, safe pregnancy, good relationships, traffic safety, doing well on exams, etc. (Do they work? Well, last time Jane and I were in Japan, I purchased a "traffic safety" one for my girlfirend, and she hasn't had a ticket or accident since. On the other hand, we got a "successful relationship" for someone else, but so far, no luck. Jane on the otherhand bought a "safe pregnancy" one for a co-worker and she had a very easy labour compared to her first child.)
