[ plot summary ]

On a far off planet, in a bar frequented by undesirables of every imaginable race, a lone traveller is on a personal quest. She is Nagi, the most sucessful and feared bounty hunter in the universe. One prize has eluded her over the years: the space pirate Ryoko. Using some "friendly" persuasion, she discovers Ryoko's whereabouts, and sets off to track her down...

It seems that the Masaki house gets more and more crowded all the time. The latest visitor -- a fuzzy white creature who bears an uncanny resemblance to Ryo-Ohki. (In more ways that one -- it likes carrots as well!) But when Ryoko sees the new visitor, the fun's over. The fuzzy creature is Ken-Ohki, Nagi's ship. And if Nagi's in the neighbourhood, Ryoko's in big trouble...

[ capsule review ]

New characters keep popping up all the time in the Tenchi world -- and this time, it's Nagi, the most successful and feared bounty hunter in the universe. The plot, character and outcome are all very predictable. The only thing worth watching in this episode is the introduction of Ken-Ohki, the male counterpart to Ryo-Ohki. (Did we forget to mention that Ryo-Ohki is female?) What bothers me about episodes like this is that there's always some aspect to a fight scene or conflict which is missed (intentionally, by the writers), so that you can stretch the idea into a 22 minute episode. For example, was it really necessary for a showdown between Ryoko and Nagi? Why not have Ryoko teleport herself into a strategic location, and then let loose with her arsenal? (Or if you really wanted to be cruel, teleport herself inside Nagi...) There I go again, being nit-picky. But I really hate it when the script is written with characters doing stupid things... - AN
