[The Crystal Kyoko]

T.H.E.M. Animé Café Awards
1998 Edition

No. 6:

Kaze No Tani No Nausicaa
(Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind)

T.H.E.M. The Café

Another masterwork of Miyazaki, and considered by many to be his greatest achievement. Miyazaki spins an epic tale that transcends time and nationality to present a powerful message about protecting our environment. Nausicaa's horrifically beautiful Sea of Corruption and compelling characters on both sides of the main conflict are just two of many elements that demonstrate why Miyazaki is considered one of the greatest storytellers of all time.

T.H.E.M. Anime Reviews:

  • Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind
  • One of Miyazaki's earlier works, this 1984 production has deservedly received acclaim the world over for both its environmental message and true-spirited heroine woven into a complex story, complete with the most ambitious creature designs ever, topped by a sweeping soundtrack by Hayashi Joe. Don't judge this movie by the wretchedly dubbed Warriors of the Wind -- Kaze No Tani No Nausicaa is a real work of art.
