(Neon Genesis Evangelion)

question:

What religous significance is the MAGI?

answer:

In the Bible, the Magi, plural form of magus, refers to the three Kings (or more correctly, the three wise men) who were led to the infant Jesus Christ by the Star of Bethlehem. Their names, were purported to be Balthasar, Melchoir and Caspar -- which also are the names of the three supercomputers which control New Tokyo-3.
